How I Became Interested in Ghosts
|
Well, I never really believed in ghosts as I was growing up. We did have some weird things happen in our Home in Poland Spring, Maine. Looking back, I don't really know how I could've experienced such things & not believe- I don't know what I thought was happening if it weren't ghosts. I was probably just too scared to believe. I remember when I was a kid a really freaky thing happened to me in my bedroom one night. It wasn't too hard to get freaked out because we lived down a long driveway in the woods... no neighbors in sight & trees all around our property. Well, I remember laying awake in bed one night & I heard a weird noise outside my window, which was facing towards the woods behind out house. The noise was probably just cats fighting or something like that, but anyways... When I sat up, I noticed my shadow on the wall next to my bed. When I turned my head, the shadow didn't move- it just stayed facing towards me. When I laid back down, the shadow stayed in that same position. I just closed my eyes tightly & stayed that way until I fell asleep- I was too scared to do anything else. I remember my younger sister telling me about something weird that happened to her when she was in bed with the flu one time. She told me that she saw an angel in the hallway that runs between the 3 upstairs bedrooms. It/she looked at her & smiled & then turned & went into my parent's bedroom. My sister thought it was an angel. I thought it was her fever causing her to hallucinate. My Mother experienced some really freaky stuff there too, but I won't post it because I don't have her permission to do so & I wouldn't want to upset her. But let me tell you- these experiences she had were very freaky & she doesn't like to talk about it because she gets scared even thinking about it. When I was in 6th grade attending Poland Community School, the teacher had a Ouija Board that she let the kids "play with". I was pretty freaked out about it at first & thought that it was "demonic" because of what my religious parents had taught me, but eventually my curiosity got the best of me & I tried it out. I asked the board who I had a crush on at the time, knowing that the girl I was using the board with had no knowledge of the answer (nor anyone else for that matter). The board answered "F.X.L.". Well, the board was right! Of course, then my friend knew who my secret crush was- after all, there's not too many people in this world with those initials. haha When I told my parents about it that night, they got me all freaked out saying that it was a demon who gave me that answer, so I never touched that board again!
So anyways, like I said, I didn't believe in ghosts as a child. It wasn't until I was about 18 years old that I even considered the possibility that ghosts could exist. The reason I began to open up to the possibility was because my best friend, Karen told me that she had seen a ghost in her apartment & I knew that she would never lie to me or mess with my mind. So then I went to the library & borrowed a book called, "ESP, Hauntings & Poltergeists" by Loyd Auerbach. I started reading it & the more aware I became of the subject, the more weird things started revealing themselves to me. At this time I was living with a friend in his apartment in Lewiston, Maine. I started seeing strange things in that apartment. I would see a dark shadow approaching me. I couldn't see it if I looked straight at it, but if I looked off to the side I could see it out of the corner of my eye. Then one day I was in the bathroom washing my hands & I felt a warm hand cover my hands. I tried to be logical & cool about it- I reenacted the situation by putting my hands back under the faucet as if washing my hands & I touched the faucet to see if maybe I'd just brushed the faucet accidentally causing that effect. Well, no, the faucet was hard & cold. I definitely had felt a warm hand covering both of my hands. I backed out of the bathroom all freaked out & said to my friend, "Something really weird just happened in there!" & went on to explain what had happened. He told me that his apartment was full of ghosts. Then another time, I had laid down on his couch to go to sleep for the night & I was having a hard time sleeping. I heard a noise out in the hallway, which was probably just the other tenants walking around. When I sat up to see what that noise was, I saw a big white lady in a long, flowing white gown standing atop the ottoman near the couch in front of me. I closed my eyes & opened them again & she was still there. I thought she was an angel & so believe it or not, it didn't really scare me. Later that year, another girl came to stay with us at this apartment for awhile. She & I started using this Ouija board that another friend had brought over. We got some strange messages with that & the friend who owned the apartment got upset at us & asked us not to use it in the apartment anymore. He said that we were inviting more spirits into his place & that there was already enough to begin with.
Well, after living in that haunted apartment building & at many other haunted apartments in Lewiston, I began to get the feeling of what to expect from each new place I'd move to. I could tell by the way the place would feel. I had noticed that in places that had given me creepy feelings, creepy things would happen. And the places that had a "generic" feeling to them would have no paranormal activities happen. When my Husband & I moved to our Home in Grand Isle, Maine a few years later, I noticed that there was a feeling of both creepy vibes & sometimes friendly, yet "not alone" types of vibes. When we got settled into our new Home, we immediately got the internet & I started studying the subject of ghosts & other paranormal phenomena. One day, I was sitting at our computer upstairs in our bedroom & I was getting really creeped-out as I was looking at ghost pictures on the internet. While I was sitting there, a post-it that was taped to the computer fell off of the monitor in front of me. As usual, I picked it up & tried to figure out if it was just a coincidence or if that was an impossible thing to happen without the "help" of a ghost. See, the way I figure it, I can only let myself be convinced that it is paranormal phenomena if I've eliminated all possible natural explanations. That way I won't be overreacting for nothing & those who ask about it when I tell them about these occurrences will have all their questions answered as to whether or not it was a natural occurrence rather than a paranormal occurrence. Well, anyways.. that paper had no reasonable way to fall other than with the "help" of some other unseen entity.
Well.... since I've lived here in our Home in Grand Isle, Maine (1998-2010), I've researched the internet for hours & hours on end on the subject of ghosts & other paranormal activities. I've saved ghost pictures on my computer like crazy & now have literally hundreds of them stored on my hard drives/disks. I've learned to tell the difference between "dust orbs" & "spirit orbs"... I've learned how to communicate with spiritual entities... I've learned about EVPs & collected EVP sound files like crazy... I've learned how to "cleanse" my Home of any unwanted or negative spirits... & I've made a few good friends with similar interests in the process. Now I'm making my own website about ghosts, as you know- because here you are reading my stories. (UPDATE 2006: check out my new site, www.ghostology.net !) So that pretty much wraps up my "How I got Interested in Ghosts" page! I really hope you like my website & also hope that my visitors contribute to the content of this site. I am eager to learn more about this subject & hope that as I build this site I will learn & experience more. Thanks for listening to my ramblings, my Friends! |
