There is no set way of carrying out a ghost hunt... there are theories upon
theories as to which way is the "right way" and which way is the "wrong
way", these are not proven theories. They are only opinions.
There is much debate over the validity of "orbs" in photography, for
example... some say it's impossible to prove that orbs are anything but dust or
moisture on your camera lens.
Some say that if you run through a list of other possible causes first (was
it raining when you took the picture?, was there a lot of dust in the air?, did
any of the other photographs taken just before or after the orb photo contain
any orbs?) & if the answer to these questions is, "No.", then it's proof
positive that you did indeed capture a true orb in your photo.
When it comes right down to it, there is NO PROOF that orbs are spirits
manifesting themselves at the moment you took that picture.
I'm not saying that I personally believe that orbs can't possibly be evidence
of a spirit present at the time the photo was taken. I'm simply stating that
there is no proof either way.
So, is considering orbs as evidence of the paranormal the "right way"
to investigate a haunting? Or, is it the "wrong way" of going about your
investigation? It's neither right nor wrong. It is simply one way of
doing things, that's all.
In my studies, I've found that many people seem to get really upset with each
other over their differences of opinion on this matter of which way is the "right
way" of carrying out an investigation. Why? We're all just searching for the
truth & last I knew, that is not a crime.
Most paranormal investigators are also trying to help people, not just
collect evidence of the afterlife. No matter which techniques they use to "hunt
ghosts" (within reason, of course!), their heart is in the right place & who am
I to tell them they are doing something wrong? I respect anyone in this world
who makes an honest effort to help their fellow man.
Here is my personal list of things to look out for if you are a client of
a paranormal investigation team:
-Does the paranormal investigation team abide by the federal & local laws set
forth in the area they're investigating?
-Do they respect their client's privacy, home, land, family members, etc.?
-Are they acting in a professional manner?
-Do they leave you scared out of your wits, or feeling as though you have a
support team who you can count on to see you through your ordeal?
-If you or someone present during the investigation were physically hurt or
showing signs of illness, (physical, emotional or mental), did the team
recommend seeking help from a qualified professional?
If you answered, "No." to any of the questions above, then the paranormal
investigation team IS conducting their investigation in the WRONG WAY.
Other than that, it's just a matter of opinion as to which way is "right"
or "wrong".
Investigators, please don't argue with each other over your differences in
technique. Respect each other as humans should always do & remember that we
"ghost hunters" have more in common than not.
Appreciate one another for all of the hard work & dedication we've put into
this field of study. We're all contributing to the same cause. We're supposed to
be comrades, so let's act like it. Let's appreciate one another for each other's
contributions, whether it's the way we would've done it or not.
