Hi, I'm Stephen Devoe, Sr., also known as "U.F. Devoe". The story behind this nickname is explained below. This page is where I'll describe some of the paranormal experiences I've had throughout the years.

I've had a lot more experiences than what is listed here on this page, but some I'd rather keep to myself or talk about one-on-one with people rather than publish them to the internet.

Permission to use the names of those I've mentioned in my stories below has been granted. If anyone involved would like to write in with your side of the story, please EMAIL ME, as I'd love to add your account of the story to this page!

These stories are listed in order of date, from the earliest to the most recent:

The 5 Lights In The Sky

Witnessed by: my Brother Tim Devoe

Date: 1961 or 1962 in the Summertime

My Brother Tim & I (I was 6 or 7 yrs. old & Tim was 7 or 8 yrs. old) were walking back to my Mother's apartment from Kennedy Park in Lewiston, Maine. It was about a month after President Kennedy had visited City Park & the city had named it after him. We were taking a short-cut through St. Patrick's Church parking lot. I don't know what got my attention to look up in the sky, but I looked up & saw 5 round bright lights. It was a cloudless day. They were very high in the sky & very slowly heading West towards Auburn. I told my brother to look up & he said, "What's that?" & I said , "I don't know! Just 5 bright lights!" He said, "Keep looking at them! Don't take your eyes off! I'm going to go home & tell Mom & Maurice (Mom's friend)!" Maurice came back with Tim & Tim asked me if I could still see them. I pointed up at the sky & said, "Yes! Right there!" Before they could focus on where these lights were in the sky, I saw the white lights turn into long streaks like they were stretching out & then they disappeared completely. There was never any sound from them. We then went back to the apartment to tell Mom about it & another friend of her's who was with her said, "Oh that's just children & their imaginations." So Mom didn't pay attention to what we had said, although we were very excited about what we'd seen. She disregarded the event altogether as a figment of our imaginations.

Within a week or so after we saw the 5 bright lights in the sky, Tim & I started having very unusual experiences. Tim & I shared a bedroom at the time & one night, while laying in bed trying to go to sleep, I sensed a presence in the room. Something that I couldn't see was frightening me. The hairs on my arms stood straight up & when I walked around our room trying to leave it behind, it kept following me. It's difficult to describe how I knew where this invisible being was or how I knew it was there, but I was very aware of it & it scared me. This lasted almost an hour before I crawled back into my bed. I had tried hiding under my bed, behind a chair... I tried to hide from it in all sorts of places within our bedroom. I woke Tim up when I was behind the chair & he asked me what I was doing. I just told him that I was crawling on my hands & knees. I didn't want to scare him. So, then I got back into my bed & pulled the blankets up over my head. I was shivering. It took me awhile to fall asleep after that.

The next day I told Tim what had happened because he asked me again what I had been doing the night before. He told me some unusual stories about how he had an aircraft waiting for him out in space. He talked about things that made me think that he didn't belong on planet Earth & he wasn't from around here! And about that time was when he told me that I should stare at a blank wall for awhile & I will see something. I didn't know what he meant by that, but I tried doing it anyway. I stared at a blank wall & after a few minutes I started to hear something strange. The wall started turning clock-wise in a small circle in a spiraling pattern. The more vivid the spiral got, the louder the noise became. I didn't know where the noise was coming from. The noise sounded like a pulsating fuzzy noise, similar to that of a television set that is not on a channel (dead air) with the volume turning up louder & louder. Out of the center of this circle something started coming out of it towards me. It looked like grayish-white string. It was fuzzy-looking like a strand of yarn. It sounded like something was rubbing along the string getting closer to me & I still could hear the fuzzy noise in the background at the same time. This string came within a few inches of my eyes... a straight line towards me & it stopped right there. While staring at this line coming out of the center of the spiral, I could see with my peripheral vision what looked like a pair of eyes on either side of the end of the string that was close in front of me. Those eyes were staring at the end of the string. I closed my eyes, shook my head, trying to shake off what I had just seen & heard. The sound didn't go away. I opened up my eyes & saw the blank wall & the spiral happened again. It repeated itself 3 times until I got nervous & left the room to tell Tim about what had happened. When I explained this experience to Tim, he was very interested in my story & he told me that I should try to do it again, but not to let it frighten me. I did do it again & the same thing happened. I just couldn't understand where that noise was coming from. And so I didn't bother trying it again, since it was scary to me.

Many years later, when I was 14 years old, I was laying in bed, trying to go to sleep, when I heard this very same noise. I was holding my blanket up to my chin & the blanket felt as thin as a thread, although it was bunched up in my hands. This time, the noise appeared to be coming from a corner of the room, to my left, near the ceiling. I found myself staring at that corner looking for it & the noise got louder. I was feeling so weird because my touch sensations made everything feel so different. Then I did the same thing as when I was a little boy. I put the blanket up over my head, shivered & said over & over again,, "Go away!" It lasted almost 5 minutes before the noise subsided & the blanket felt normal again.

I had this "thin" feeling several times while driving my car in the years to come. The steering wheel felt as thin as a thread. I remember that I started getting really nervous as to why this was happening again. There was no spiraling this time & no "air" sound, but my touch sensations seemed heightened. I also felt very small for some reason & the thought of feeling like I was a speck of dust on a big planet came into my mind. It was as if I was looking down at myself from a far distance away from the Earth, like part of me was somewhere above this planet, looking down at it & yet part of me was still driving my car.

This "thin" sensation still happens to me about once every two years.

Sleep Walking

Witnessed by: my Mother Jeanne Langelier

Date: 1970 during the month of April

One morning, when I was 15 yrs. old, I had woken up to find myself fully dressed, laying in bed & my clothes were soaking wet. I went downstairs to the dining room area to see my Mom & I said to her, "I don't know why I have my clothes on & they are soaking wet!" She said, "Well, it rained last night!" I said, "But what does that have to do with my clothes being on, soaking wet, when I went to bed naked, like I always do?" She said, "It's because you went out last night when it was raining. It rained all night. The streets are still wet. If you don't believe me then look!" I looked out the window & indeed there were puddles of water & the streets had not yet dried up. I told her, "But I went to bed naked! I didn't go anywhere! What makes you say that I came in late last night? I went to bed at 10pm." She said, "Well, you must've gotten up & gone out because when I got up around 2am to go to the bathroom, I saw you come in from outside & you started going up the stairs. I stopped you & asked you where you'd been. You said, 'I don't know where I've been.' & then went upstairs back to bed." And then she told me that she had said to herself, "He must've been sleep walking or something." because when I looked towards her to answer her, I looked past her when I spoke. When she told me that, I suddenly remembered the dream that I'd had last night. It seemed more real than any other dream that I'd ever had...

The dream I'd had was about leaving the house & going to someplace that looked familiar to me as if I'd been there before. I had found myself walking into an alley-way that was closed off at the far end. On the left was a huge brick wall & a pile of cardboard boxes up against the middle of the wall, half way down the alley. I started moving those boxes & behind it was a green metal door. I knocked on the door & a girl answered. She invited me in & said she had been waiting for me. I entered the room, which was quite small, which had no windows or any other doors & it had a very, very high ceiling. When I looked up at the ceiling, there was a long, old-fashioned electrical cord made out of twisted cloth-type material with one light bulb at the end of it. It was the only light in the room, so it was on. She showed me that to the right of me there was a short set of steps leading upwards to an open loft. She pointed me up the stairs to the loft & I walked up the stairs & could see that it was the same width as the room I had been standing in down below, but it was at least 3 times the length of the lower room. The walls of the loft were lined with lots of old furniture on both sides. The further down I looked, the darker the room got because there was only the one light downstairs in the lower room to see by. I said something to the effect of, "Wow! You have a lot of furniture here!" She said that she wasn't done getting all of the furniture that she needs. So I went back downstairs to where she was standing & I told her that I'd be back. Then I went back outside & closed the door & put all of the cardboard boxes back in front of the door so that no one could see the door. It was then that I woke up.

After that, I went around town (Auburn & Lewiston, Maine) looking for that alley that I had dreamt about. I couldn't find it.

Two weeks later I had that same dream again. This time I looked all around where I was standing, where I was going... I tried to memorize everything so I that could find it after I woke up. I went back to the same alley, moved the boxes again, opened the door & found the girl standing there inside the room. I told her that I would come back for her one more time to free her from this place & she replied that she'd be waiting for me. I then left the room, closed the door, put the boxes back in front of the door, walked home & then woke up.

For 2 months after that I looked for that alley. I figured out how far I could've walked in the time that I'd been asleep when I had had that dream & I walked in every direction from my apartment for that amount of time & then some. I could not find that alley! I spent hours & hours every day for those 2 months looking for it. Even a year later I started looking for it again. I couldn't get it out of my head- it all seemed too real. For years after that, every time that I was in Lewiston-Auburn & saw an alley that looked similar to the one in my dreams, I'd stop whatever I was doing & check it out, but I never found the exact same alley. The last time I searched for it was in 1987... I tried to find it again & was again unsuccessful.

UF-Devoe

Witnessed by: Mr. Proctor's biology class at Lewiston High School

Date: 1971 sometime during the school year

This is how I came to be known as "UF-Devoe".

In High school, my Brother Tim & I were always talking about our strange experiences, such as the 5 lights we'd seen in the sky when we were young, my missing time that I'd had when my Mom had found me coming into the apartment at 2am soaking wet & the ghost-hunting expeditions we'd gone on together as teenagers. So, the kids in school knew us as being quite the eccentric kids who were into so many strange paranormal-type activities.

One day, I was sitting in Mr. Proctor's biology classroom making origami figures out of paper while waiting for Mr. Proctor to come to the classroom to begin the class. A fellow student named Mark Connors made a paper airplane & threw it at me just as Mr. Proctor walked into the room. The paper airplane swerved towards the teacher's desk & landed on the floor in front of the black board. Mr. Proctor said, "Who threw that?" That is when Mark said, "It was a UF-Devoe!" & everyone laughed. The name stuck & all through high school after that, that was my nickname: "UF-Devoe".

UFO in Mechanic Falls, Maine

Witnessed by: my friend Wally Nutter

Date: 1971 in the Summertime

Wally Nutter & I were driving through Mechanic Falls, Maine one day. We had driven underneath a railroad over-pass, heading towards Oxford, Maine. When we got to the top of the hill after the over-pass, the roads turns a little to the right & that is where the car engine stalled out. I asked Wally if he had run out of gas & he said, "No, I still have almost a quarter tank!" He tried to start the car back up & it wouldn't turn over- it made no sound at all. So I said, "Oh man, your battery died." He said, "It couldn't have- the car would run without a battery- the car had already been running." So he tried beeping the horn to prove it & the horn didn't work. It was just then when we both looked up & saw a space craft going from the right to the left about 150 ft. (at the most) up in the air just ahead of us. He said, "Whoa! Did you see that?" I said, "Yeh I did! That was a UFO!" He said, "Ah we gotta get out of here!" And he tried to start the car again. It started right up. He looked at me & laughed & beeped the horn. We turned around & went straight back to Lewiston saying, "We gotta tell Tim about this!"

UFO at Shaker Village in Gray, Maine

Witnessed by: my Brother Tim Devoe (see his words written below my version of this story) & my friends Wally Nutter & Jane Didam

Date: 1973 in the Summertime

My Brother Tim, my friends Wally Nutter & Jane Didam & I* decided one night to go out to Poland, Maine in our car & search for the "Rt. 26 Lady in White". There is a legend about a ghost lady wearing a white dress who hitch-hikes down Rt. 26 & when people pick her up in their cars, she mysteriously disappears with no earthly explanation. There was even a sheriff who picked her up for hitch-hiking & put her in handcuffs & put her in the back of his car. While en route to the sheriff's dept., he turned around to say something to her & discovered that she had disappeared. We had read an article in the Lewiston Sun Journal about this sheriff's experience & we decided to see if we could find her ourselves.

So, we drove down Rt. 26 & when we came to the Shaker Village in Gray, Maine, we turned around & parked facing West towards Poland on the Shaker Woods Rd. (now Shaker Rd.) across from a corn field. Tim said, "Look at that orange crescent moon." & I said, "It's crescent, but it's not orange." He said, "Yes it is & it's wiggling a little bit." I said, "I'm looking right at it & it isn't wiggling." He then said, "Well, what are you looking at?" "The moon is over here.", I said. I was looking out a different window than he was. He said, "That's the moon in front of us over there above the corn field." I argued with him saying, "No, it's behind us more.", as I pointed out the left passenger door window. He said, "Well, if that's the moon, then what is that in front of us?", while he pointed out the front windshield. We both looked that way & Tim suggested that Wally, who was driving his car, go across Rt. 26 down the dirt road to get a closer look at what that was floating above the corn field. Tim said something about stopping right here... my memory starts to get fuzzy at this point... I can remember that Tim got out of the car first & I think that was when Wally started to turn the car around to park facing the other way and I remember opening up the door to get out. That's when Tim came running from behind the car, hit his leg on the bumper of the car & said, "Let's get the hell out of here!" So I said, "What just happened?" We got back in the car & Wally started driving back towards Poland as Tim explained what had happened to him. All I can remember is just me, Wally & Jane saying, "What happened? What happened?"... I don't remember anything else. I don't even remember what happened the rest of that day.

*Note: Wally was driving the car, Jane was in the middle of the front seat & Tim was in the front passenger seat. I was sitting behind Wally in the back & there were 2 other people with us who were also sitting in the back seat, but I can't remember who they were. You'll have to refer to Tim's side of the story below:

Here is Tim's side of this story written in his own words as posted on the UFOs Northwest website:

"The emotional experience of my abduction never stops. We were taken onboard & released the morning after. I did report the abduction to the authorities & what a mistake that was. I did go to a local hospital for a checkup as my nose was bleeding and the whites of my eyes were deep orange and my lungs ached when breathing. I was very concerned about all of this & then when the nurse read my height measurement as being 5'09", I told her that she was incorrect as I am over 5'10" & she rechecked the scale & told me again 5'09". When my brother & I arrived home & our mom had seen us, first she wanted to know were we both had been & then she yelled at us saying "What happened??? You both have shrunk what is wrong with your eyes???. At this point I ran to the bathroom mirror and saw that I did not look right. I showed the authorities my 18th birthday photo taken about two weeks before our abduction & told them to examine my high school medical records for my physical size & please make out the comparison between then and how I am now (at the time) and I asked them how many 18 year olds lose an inch overnight? I may not recall exactly everything today of the experience, however I still retain enough memory about it.

First of all, we were all in our teen years during this experience. We had seen unconventional flying objects before 1973, but this one really got our attention. The location can be viewed at: http://www.shaker.lib.me.us/. Just north passed area #4 is where we were abducted at the intersection of route #26 & Outlet road & Shaker Village road which was later renamed Quarry road. We at first had been followed by a UFO along side the driver's side for several miles towards Middle Range pond & took a sharp left at this point and we proceeded to head towards Oxford, Me. We turned around by the Oxford Plains Speedway & headed back the same way we had came. The extra strange stuff began when we reached the Apple orchard by the intersections I have already afore mentioned. We noticed that all traffic had ceased on this usually busy & well traveled road and it the sun had gone down awfully fast & now the stars appeared & were HUGE as if I could reach out to them. We noticed the usual cricket sounds for this area were missing and I could feel & hear my heart beating in my ears as it seemed like we were inside a vacuumed bottle, all we could hear is us talking to each other & all the usual outside noises were silenced. We saw the UFO all of a sudden hovering by a tree that to this day still is the only tree seated just in front of the apple orchard. This UFO was big & round & lit up orange & totally quiet & we all just stared at it for what we thought at the time was just about one hour. On our way back home it became daylight way too soon & I asked my friend & owner & driver of the 1967 Tan Chevy Nova we all road in to head towards the Auburn, Me police department as I wanted to inform the police of this event. We were about to encounter more strange stuff in which much later on had proved to by very significant."

Report: UFOs Intrude Into SAC Base Weapons Areas (Limestone AFB, Maine)

Witnessed by: numerous Northern U.S. citizens

Date: October-November 1975

Source: http://www.ufocasebook.com/sacbaseweapons1975.html

Over a period of about three weeks in October and November of 1975, several Strategic Air Command (SAC) bases in the northern tier states were placed on a high priority (Security Option 3) alert because of repeated intrusions of unidentified aircraft flying at low altitude over atomic weapons storage areas.

The Commander-in-Chief of North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) sent a four-part message to NORAD units on November 11, 1975 summarizing the events. Some excerpts follow:

"Since 28 Oct 75 numerous reports of suspicious objects have been received at the NORAD CU; reliable military personnel at Loring AFB, Maine, Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan, Malmstrom AFB, Mt, Minot AFB, ND, and Canadian Forces Station, Falconbridge, Ontario, Canada have visually sighted suspicious objects."

On October 27-28, 1975, Staff Sgt. Danny K. Lewis, 42nd Security Police Squadron, while on duty at the munitions storage area of Loring AFB, Maine, at 7:45 p.m. saw an apparent aircraft at low altitude along the northern perimeter of the base. Other witnesses were Sgt. Clifton W. Blakeslee and Staff Sgt. William J. Long. The craft had a red light and a pulsating white light.

A teletype message to the National Military Command Center in Washington, D.C., said: "The A/C [aircraft] definitely penetrated the LAFB [Loring Air Force Base] northern perimeter and on one occasion was within 300 yards of the munitions storage area perimeter."

Staff Sgt. James P. Sampley, 2192nd Communications Squadron, was on duty in the control tower when he picked up the craft on radar nearing the base. He tried to make radio contact to warn the presumed aircraft that it was entering a restricted area. The craft began to circle in the vicinity of the nuclear weapons storage area at about 150 feet altitude. When it penetrated the nuclear weapons storage area at an estimated 300 feet altitude, Lewis reported it to the command post.

The Commander of the 42nd Bomb Wing, Col. Richard E. Chapman, arrived at the weapons storage area shortly before 8:00 a.m. and security police units were ordered into the area. Security vehicles with flashing lights converged on the scene. Col. Chapman implemented a Security Option 3 alert.

At 8:45 p.m. Sgt. Grover K. Eggleston was on duty in the control tower when a call came from the command post requesting a radar track on the mysterious craft. For 40 minutes he observed the object on radar circling around, then it abruptly vanished from the screen as if it had either landed or dropped below the minimum level of radar coverage.

Witnesses observed the craft flying away toward New Brunswick. Radar tracked it again as it receded from the base until contact was lost in the vicinity of Grand Falls, 12 miles from Loring AFB.

Priority messages on the incident were sent to the National Military Command Center in Washington, D.C., the Air Force Chief of Staff, SAC headquarters, and other major commands. Loring remained on a high state of alert into the following morning. Efforts to identify the "aircraft" through the Maine State Police, local police departments, and the Federal Aviation Administration office in Houlton, Maine, were not successful.

The next night at 7:45 p.m. a similar craft with body lights again approached the base, tracked on radar, and maneuvered around in the vicinity for more than 30 minutes. Its speed and motions were similar to those of a helicopter. The craft would appear and disappear from view. Its lights went off and the craft reappeared over the weapons storage area at 150 feet (45 meters).

At about this time Sgt. Steven Eichner, a B-52 crew chief, Sgt. R. Jones, and other crew members spotted an unidentified red and orange object over the flight line. It looked like a "stretched out football" (cigar-shaped) and was hovering in mid-air.

As the B-52 crew watched, the lights on the object went out and it disappeared, but soon reappeared over the north end of the runway, moving in a jerky, erratic fashion. When it stopped and hovered, Eichner and the others jumped into a truck and drove toward the object. As they turned onto the road that led to the weapons storage area, they encountered the object about 300 feet ahead hovering about five feet off the ground. Its length appeared to be equivalent to about four car lengths.

Sgt. Eichner said that it was like looking at a desert scene. "You see waves of heat rising off the desert floor. This is what I saw. There were these waves in front of the object and all the colors were blending together. The object was solid and we could not hear any noise coming from it."

The object again was tracked on radar as it departed towards New Brunswick. And once again priority messages about the intrusion were sent to higher commands. No explanation was ever found.

On October 30, 1975, at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan, about 10:10 p.m., base personnel saw the running lights of a low-flying craft thought to be a helicopter, except that it hovered and moved up and down erratically near the base perimeter. One white light was pointed downward and two red lights were visible near the trailing edge.

Airman Michael J. Myers, an air policeman on duty near the main gate, saw several unidentified lights near the western edge of the base. The object turned north and appeared to lose altitude.

Between 10:15 and 10:25 p.m., base security police at the back gate of Wurtsmith reported to the command post that an unidentified "helicopter" with no lights had come over the back gate and hovered at low altitude over the weapons storage area. Radar was also tracking low-flying objects intruding into the base, and an incoming KC-135 confirmed seeing two unidentified craft that sped away each time they attempted to close in for identification.

A teletype message November 2nd from Loring Air Force Base, Maine, Office of Special Investigations (OSI) detachment to the National Military Command Center and OSI headquarters in Washington, D.C., reported another "unidentified helicopter sighted at low level over Loring AFB" over the past two nights (October 31-November 1). It also referred to the intruder as an "unknown entity."

Capt. Richard R. Fuhs, Operations Officer, 42nd Security Police Squadron (SPS), "...advised that there had been three verified sightings of an unidentified A/C [aircraft] flying at low level over and in the vicinity of LAFB [Loring Air Force Base]" during this period. The initial sighting was made by Staff Sgt. Michael D. Scott, 42nd SPS, on duty at 11:14 p.m. Tech. Sgt. David E. Mott, Flight Chief, 42nd SPS, spotted the object from a position near the East Gate just past midnight, flying from east to west.

At Malmstrom AFB, Montana, November 7, 1975, electronic sensors at the Minuteman missile sites triggered an alarm indicating a breach of the K-7 site security at about 3:00 p.m. A Sabotage Alert Team headed toward the site, and from a distance of about a mile saw a glowing orange object over the area. As they came closer they could see that it was an enormous disc, the size of a football field, whose light was illuminating the missile site. They reported this to the launch control facility, and were ordered to proceed into the site. But they refused to do so because they were fearful of the consequences.

The object then began to rise and was picked up on NORAD radar at about 1,000 feet. Two F-106 interceptors were scrambled from Great Falls and sped toward the area, but the object continued to rise and disappeared off the radar screen at about 200,000 feet. As noted in the NORAD Commander-in-Chief's report cited above, the pilots were unable to obtain a visual sighting. Later investigation established that computer codes in the missile warhead had been altered. Several other UFO sightings at the missile sites later that evening and next day were documented in military records.

During the same time period as the SAC base intrusions, civilians, police officers, military officers, and NORAD radar saw and tracked UFOs that alternately hovered and darted around at high speed at Falconbridge Air Force Station, a radar site near North Bay, Ontario, Canada. The sightings occurred between 3:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. local time, November 11, 1975.

NORAD regional director logs obtained by Larry Fawcett and Barry Greenwood gave some indication of the events, with times expressed in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or "Zebra" (Z) time.

1205 GMT. "Unusual sighting report" made.

1840 GMT. Jet interceptors were scrambled, airborne at 1750Z "due to unusual object sighting...UFO report from Falconbridge."

At 0202Z on November 15, 1975, "Report sent to NCOC Surveillance, referred to Assistant Command Director Space Defense Center, and intelligence. These 3 individuals considered the report a UFO report and not an unknown track report."

A detailed NORAD report on the incidents and a subsequent press release based on it both have been made public. Raymond E. Fowler quotes the NORAD report:

"Falconbridge reported [at 4:05 a.m.] search and height finder paints [radar targets] on an object 25 to 30 nautical miles south of the site ranging in altitude from 26,000 feet to 72,000 feet [appearing visually as like a bright star]. With binoculars, the object appeared as a 100-ft. diameter sphere and appeared to have craters [sic] around the outside... To date, efforts by Air Guard helicopters, SAC helicopters and NORAD F-106s have failed to provide positive identification."

On November 13, NORAD issued a press release in Sudbury, Ontario, containing essentially the same information. The press release added that, "Two F-106 aircraft of the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard's 171st Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Selfridge ANGB [Air National Guard Base], Michigan, were scrambled; but the pilots reported no contact with the object."

Seven Ontario police officers were among the witnesses to the UFOs that were also tracked on NORAD radar alternately hovering and darting around at high speed. Capt. Gordon Hilchie, director of public affairs for the 22nd NORAD Region Control Center at North Bay, Ontario, acknowledged: "Yes, we saw this so-called UFO at the same time people outside were seeing it too."

Lt. Col. Brian Wooding, Control Center Director, said: "We get quite a few UFO reports, but to my knowledge this is about the only one we've actually seen on radar, and the only time we've gone to the point of scrambling interceptors. The jets were scrambled because the indications were there was something very evident to a large number of people, and because we did manage to get some sort of radar sighting."

Del Kindschi, spokesman for NORAD headquarters in Colorado Springs, said the UFO was tracked on radar intermittently for six hours, first spotted 25-30 miles south of the radar site. The object zoomed from 26,000 feet to 45,000 feet, "... stopped a while, and then moved up very quickly to 72,000 feet." The first visual sightings were at 3:00 a.m. from Sudbury, Ontario, as brilliant lights that hovered low in the sky, then suddenly shot straight up at tremendous speed.

http://www.nicap.org/ncp/ncp-loringafb.htm I was the Air Force Officer (rank of Captain and B-52 Aircraft Commander) in charge in the Command Post at the 42nd Bomb Wing at Loring A.F.B the first night of this sighting. Many of the details of the night have been forgotten, but I haven’t forgotten that it happened. I do remember being on duty and receiving a call from Security and was told that there was a bright white light hovering over the primary entrance to the base. Many of the typical calls that we received could be handled with the use of a binder full of checklist. That way the Wing Staff wouldn’t have to be disturbed in the evening and could be briefed in the morning. It didn’t take too long to realize that we didn’t have a checklist that applied to the information being given to us during this call. We were told that the bright white light was stationary and there was no engine noise. I promptly notified the Wing Commander and he appeared at the Command Post in a very short amount of time. These sightings went on for many of the following nights that I worked. Many of the following nights the Command Post would have the usual two Controllers plus several of the Wing Staff members. One night as I was getting off my work shift we received a call that another sighting had been made. We were not able to see these sighting ourselves because there were no windows in the Command Post. The Wing Commander asked me to take his Staff Car and take the Helicopter Pilot to his aircraft. That was the first sighting that I actually made of this bright white light. It appeared to be hovering over the runway from where I was standing but this also could have put it over the weapons storage area. I dropped off the Helicopter Pilot and watched him takeoff towards the object that we had been watching. I saw it leave very rapidly as he approached it. It left so rapidly that it almost would appear that it had simply turned its light off. That is not what happened because I could detect a very rapid motion from a standstill. This accelerat! ion was faster than any that I had ever seen before or since. I know there was much effort during the days that followed to try and gather information about possible landing sites in the area. Airports were checked for transient aircraft landings and fuel purchases. Fields and wide riverbeds were also considered. No information was ever collected that I am aware of that would verify that this was just some kind of aircraft/balloon/helicopter/hoax as we know it. Needless to say, I only had and needed access to information that pertained to the performance of my job as a Command Post Controller. I can say that as far as I know, this sighting remained Unidentified, it was Flying and it was an Object. So, I can refer to this as a UFO but I can’t make any conclusion of its origin/destination/intentions. I believe that Approach Control was able to track the object with radar as I recall. I can’t confirm much of the other information that I have read but I do know what took place where I was working. It was a very impressive sighting and would be quite hard to believe unless you were there and saw it.

UFO Circles Weapons Storage Area - Loring AFB, Maine - October 27, 1975

Source: National Investigations Committee On Aerial Phenomena (NICAP)

A UFO was reported by Staff Sgt. Danny K. Lewis near the Loring Air Force Base, Maine.  The UFO began to circle the nuclear weapons storage area to within 300 yards of the facility.  Finally, it hovered 150 feet above the ground.  The base was placed on a major alert status. Radar tracked its maneuvers in the area for over 40 minutes. The reddish-orange UFO later moved to within five feet of the ground.  Security personnel said the UFO was "like a stretched-out football in the air" as it hovered nearby.  They described the object as about four car lengths long.  It shut off its lights and rapidly left the area from near ground level.

Documentation

Here's the detailed report adapted from "CLEAR INTENT" (Lawrence Fawcett and Barry Greenwood), page 16-26:

Loring Air Force Base,
Northeastern Maine
27 October 1975

Although it is no longer an active Air Force Base today, in 1975 Loring AFB was a Strategic Air Command Base and a storage site for nuclear weapons. The nukes were stored in a fenced weapons dump consisting of small huts covered with dirt for camouflage from the air. It was patrolled day and night by the 42nd Security Police Squadron.

At 7:45 P.M. on 27 October, 1975, Staff Sgt. Danny K. Lewis was patrolling the weapons dump when he saw an unidentified aircraft nearing  the north perimeter of Loring at a low altitude of about 300 feet. Lewis  noticed what appeared to be a red navigation light and a white strobe light  on the aircraft. As Lewis watched, the craft entered the perimeter of  Loring.

Meanwhile, in the control tower of the air base, Staff Sgt. James P. Sampley of the 2192nd Communications Squadron was on duty at the radar screen. He got a radar return from an unknown aircraft ten to thirteen miles east-northeast of Loring. Sampley made numerous attempts by radio on all available communications bands, civilian and military, to contact the craft, but he got no response. The unidentified craft began to circle, and came to within 300 yards of the restricted nuclear storage area  at a low altitude of 150 feet.

Back at the nuclear weapons dump, Lewis notified his Command Post that an unknown aircraft had penetrated the base perimeter and was within 300 yards of the nuclear weapons area. The base was immediately put on a Security Option 3 alert and Security contacted the tower regarding radar tracking of the aircraft.

At 8:45 P.M., Sgt. Grover K. Eggleston began observing the craft on radar from the tower as it began circling ten miles east-northeast of the base. The Wing Commander ordered a ground search and requested air support from Hancock Field, New York and North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Both bases refused to send air support. The Maine State Police and local airport flight services were contacted to attempt to identify the unknown craft, but without results. Intense ground searches produced no results.

The craft continued circling for approximately forty minutes, at which time it broke the pattern and headed toward Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. In the vicinity of Grand Falls, twelve miles from Loring, it vanished from the radar screen. There was no further activity that night, although the base remained on high alert into the next morning. SAC Headquarters was notified.

28 October 1975

The next night, again at 7:45 P.M., while patrolling the weapons storage area, Staff Sgt. Lewis, along with Sgt. Clifton W. Blakeslee and Sgt. William J. Long, again spotted the lights of an unidentified aircraft approaching Loring AFB from the north at an altitude of about 3,000 feet. It approached to within about three miles of the base perimeter and was noted to have a flashing white light and an amber or orange light. Lewis reported the sighting to his Command Post, and the Wing Commander came out to the weapons storage area to see for himself. He reported seeing an object with a flashing white light and an amber light whose speed and motion were similar to that of a helicopter. The craft was also observed on radar.

The craft was then observed over the flight line by Sgt, Steven Eichner, Sgt. R. Jones, and others. They saw an orange and red object shaped like a stretched-out football hovering in mid-air. It turned out its lights, and then reappeared hovering about 150 feet over the end of the runway. It was described as about four car-lengths long, solid, reddish-orange, with no doors or windows, and with no visible propellers or engines. It was totally silent.

The base went on full alert and a sweep was made by security, but the object turned off its lights and was not seen again. Radar picked up a target moving in the direction of Grand Falls, New Brunswick. SAC Headquarters was again notified.

29 October 1975

Finally, because of the activity of the previous two nights, air support was given in the form of a National Guard helicopter. Canadian authorities were contacted, and permission to cross the border was granted. An RCMP officer would be aboard the helicopter because it was thought that the sightings might be connected with drug smuggling in the area.

That evening, when the first sighting was made, the Huey took off with its Army National Guard crew, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer, a Maine State Policeman, and several Loring Air Security officers aboard. The Huey chased sighting reports made by ground crew for forty minutes, but they could see nothing from the air, even when they were as close as 100 yards to a spot where ground observers saw something. Nothing was detected by radar.

30 October 1975

The Maine National Guard Huey was replaced by an air force helicopter and crew from Plattsburgh AFB. That evening, objects were reported at several locations over and near the base, and were detected by radar.

During the remainder of 1975, objects and lights were reported several times in the skies between Loring and Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Official investigations by various U.S. and Canadian agencies revealed nothing that was released to the public.

Up Close

Witnessed by: friends Ernie Goulet, Robert Towle (Vice-President of the Lewiston-Auburn JCs) & many others

Date: 1978 during the Summertime

I was outside my apartment on 10 Knox St. in Lewiston, Maine with a number of my friends. I don't remember why, but I happened to have my 10X50 power binoculars strapped around my neck. I looked towards Kennedy Park & up in the air I saw (about 100 ft. up) was a big disc-shaped flying saucer. As I told everybody, "Look up in the sky!" you could hear everybody saying, "Oh Wow!!!" I quickly grabbed the binoculars I was wearing to get a close-up view (even though I didn't need it). I could only see about 1/4 of the bottom of it with the binoculars... it was just way too close to see the whole thing. I handed my binoculars to Ernie to get a good look at it- close. That's when I started hollering, "Bob!" (Robert Towle). He poked his head out of the 5th floor window & I pointed to the UFO & I yelled, "Look at that!" Bob said, "Oh my God!" and he called the Lewiston Police to report it. He could see the broad side of the craft because it was so close to where he was. The UFO was only traveling about 20 mph & it was wobbling. Everything we looked at,.. buildings, trees, people, the road, the ground... everything, had this look about it as if heat was everywhere. You know how something looks wiggly when there is a lot of heat coming from nearby it? That's what everything looked like. Nothing looked solid. I told Ernie to remember everything he saw so that he could draw a picture of it. Then he gave me my binoculars back & started drawing his picture, while I looked through the binoculars some more. The UFO started heading towards St. Patrick's Church & it was flying so low that it almost hit the cross on top of the highest steeple on top of the church. It actually had to go up in the air more to avoid hitting it. I not only saw the bottom of it, when it was almost above all of us, but I also saw the side of it as it flew away, which was what Bob  was looking at from 5 floors up. Bob also watched it until it went out of sight.

Afterwards, I drew a picture of what I saw & then asked Ernie to show me his picture. It was the same. We drew the same thing.

The police never came over to question us & it was never in the newspaper. Everybody thought that was very odd.

Missing Time

Witnessed by: My friend Peggy

Date: March of 1993

It was 11:35pm when my friend Peggy came to my apartment in Lewiston to see how I was doing & to make sure I had been eating good. The first thing she asked me was, "What time is it?" That's when I pointed at the clock on the kitchen wall & told her, "See? It's 11:35pm." She said, "Oh o.k. I can only stay until midnight because I have to get up at 5:00 in the morning to get ready for work." So I said, "Oh no problem, I'm just finishing up repairing a speaker, putting new speaker wires on it to hook it up to the stereo."

About that time I was done, so I took the speaker box from the kitchen through my dining room to the living room, turned on the receiver, scanned through the radio stations to find a good song to listen to & listened to make sure that all of the speakers were working on the box. I only listened to the song for a minute or two. I remember hearing someone hollering for me on the CB that was in the kitchen. So, I headed back through the dining room towards the kitchen. Just before I got to the kitchen room door, it felt like I was walking through Jell-O... the air was thick. I couldn't move very fast... extremely slow. I was fully conscious through the whole 5 seconds or so that it happened. As I got to the kitchen door, the "thick air" feeling went away. I said something like, "Wow. That was strange." The CB was now nothing but dead air- all of the people who were talking on it a few seconds ago were now gone. She then entered into the kitchen from the opposite end of the kitchen & said, "What happened?" I said, "I don't know. It felt like I was walking through Jell-O." She said, "I'm not talking about that. I mean, what happened to your clock?" I said, "There's nothing wrong with my clock." She said, "Well, it's 2:35 in the morning! I told you I had to leave by midnight!" I asked her, "Well, how long do you think we were in the living room anyway? I thought you were behind me. Why did you come in the other side- the longest way to get into the kitchen?" She said, "Well, it was only like a minute or 2 that we were in the living room & I don't know why I came in this way. I thought I was behind you too! What happened?" I said, "There's nothing wrong with the clock, so we had to have missed 3 hours of time!"

She asked me if there was something wrong with her forehead because it felt funny. She had a strawberry-red mark on her forehead between her eyes. I told her that is what I saw. She said, "Oh no! It happened again. The last time I got this mark, I was driving in my car on Minot Avenue, going to Mechanic Falls. I found myself on the side of the road, the engine was still running & in drive. I don't remember stopping, but when I looked in the mirror, I saw this red mark." At this point she had gone into the bathroom to look at herself in the medicine cabinet mirror while still talking to me... the bathroom was right next to the kitchen. I was still standing in the kitchen staring at the clock. I told her, "The clock is still plugged in to the wall, it is still running... the clock had been there for 3 years & I never had a problem with it before. And I don't think that's the wrong time either." We had really lost 3 hours of time. She said, "Well, if it's that late, then I really gotta go!" And then she left. After she left, I went to the TV. to check the time & it was the same time that my clock said it was... I even listened to the radio just to make sure & they said the same time too.

Have You Ever Seen A UFO?

Witnessed by: my Wife Jessica Devoe & 4 friends

Date: 1998 sometime in August

In this story I will leave out the names of our friends because I haven't seen them in a few years & I don't have their permission to publish their names.

When my Wife Jessica & I first moved to Grand Isle, Maine in 1998, we only knew one person in this area. The people who sold us our home were very nice to us & invited us to visit them at their house (about 2.5 miles down the road from our house) on a weekly basis. One night, they had invited us over to their house for an outdoor BBQ in their front yard by their campfire. It was the husband, the wife, their 16 yr. old son & a friend of theirs who lived across the street from them... and my Wife & I.

Their son was a very intelligent young man who was heavily into studying physics, which is also one of my strong suits & we would talk for many hours at a time about the subject. One other subject he liked to discuss was UFOs & aliens. He had purchased the comic book that the men who had been abducted in the famous Allagash Abductions had authored. He had also met one of these men & had him sign his comic book. The Allagash is about an hour & a half drive North/North-West of where we live, so it was a particularly interesting subject to discuss. The father of the young man had told us of many strange unexplainable things that had happened on his land, so he found the subject interesting also.

After we ate our delicious BBQ dinner that night, we were sitting around the campfire talking about such subjects. The smoke from the campfire kept wafting straight into my face & I kept moving to another spot & it would turn & waft into my face no matter where I moved to. Finally, the father said, "Come over here Steve... we haven't been bothered by any smoke in our spot all night." I replied, "If I move to where you're at, the smoke will just follow me there. Smoke always follows me... always has my entire Life." They chuckled & he said, "Nah, it won't this time... we haven't been bothered all night." So, I got up & went to their side of the campfire & stood right behind the husband & wife & the smoke immediately turned & came straight towards us. It was so bad that the husband fell over out of his chair trying to get away from it as fast as he could. He had a broken leg & just about broke the other one trying to get away!

Well, then they believed me & we started talking about many of my strange experiences that I've had throughout my lifetime. His son was so interested that he asked question after question- he couldn't get enough! I asked him, "Have you ever seen a UFO?" He said, "Unfortunately, no." I turned & asked the other 3 friends if any of them had seen a UFO & they all said no. I told them that UFOs do funny things. They will stand still & wiggle & then go a little ways & stop for a second. They will then turn & go in a different direction & then they'll stop long enough to make you think that they're a star & just when you think that, they will streak off & out of view. As I finished explaining that to them, the son looked into the sky & said, "Hey, is that what you're talking about?" & he pointed to the sky. We all looked up into the sky & saw a small white light slowly moving to the right. The father said, "Is it an airplane?" I said, "Do you see any blinking lights?" Everybody agreed that there were no blinking lights- just the one white light. Then, as we were staring at it, it suddenly stopped, then wiggled back & forth, then went straight down a few inches really fast & stopped again, wiggled, went to the right really fast, wiggled again. That lasted about 5 minutes. "Whoa! That is no airplane!" everybody said. At first we thought it had stopped moving finally, but then we realized that it was getting smaller & smaller, so it must've been heading straight forward away from us. We watched it until it disappeared completely. I said, "Well, now you've seen your first UFO."

About a night or 2 later, my Wife & I were sitting outside on our well watching the stars & the same thing happened again.

Here is a similar account reported by someone in New Hampshire:

As I was looking up at the night sky in a North to North east direction, at approx.9:30 pm, I noticed what appeared to be a satellite moving through space/orbit.

The single light was pinpointed, such as a distant star and white, and travelling from the North/North East toward the South/Southwest at a slow but steady unaltered speed. The sky was completely clear with no overcast. After viewing it for about 10 or 11 seconds, it abruptly reversed its' direction but on an angle approx. 30 degrees from where I first noticed it. It did not stop or appear to slow down in any way upon changing direction. Recently, I have viewed this same phenomenon documented on television, (shown 3/24/00 on FOX network). This was exactly, without any deviation, the same type UFO that I witnessed that night. The one that was documented was filmed from a satellite in 1991. I am convinced this was not from ice, debris or any man made product and in fact it was a visitation from an alien spacecraft. I have viewed satellites before at night and have never seen them change direction.

Happy Anniversary To Us

Witnessed by: my Wife Jessica Devoe

Date: July 11, 2000

I am writing this while it is still fresh in my memory. Today is Monday, July, 24, 2000, 1:13am. My name is Jessica S. Devoe.

One week and 6 days ago (sometime after 8:30pm) on our 3rd anniversary, July 11, 2000, my husband & I had a very interesting experience. We were both sitting in the living room, watching TV & I heard a loud noise outside that sounded like a helicopter. At first, I thought it might be the train going by, so I got up & turned off the fan to hear better. The reason I did that was because the house was not shaking the same way that it does when the train passes. After I turned it off (the fan), Stephen & I thought that it sounded like a helicopter, so he went outside in the driveway to see it- I stayed on the porch because I had no shoes on. He looked around into the sky for a couple of seconds, then suddenly got very excited & yelled, "Come here! Come here! Quick!!!" From my view from the porch, he was standing at the left end of our driveway, looking into the sky above our shed, slightly to the right. I ran down off the porch up to his side & was amazed at what I saw in the sky. By the way, the loud helicopter noise persisted. I saw 3 sparkling white lights in the sky that were in the shape of a triangle. The lights twinkled & sparkled & I could see the sky through the center of the lights which were about 2 finger lengths (if I hold my hands out in front of me to measure) apart equally. The lights looked like they were attached to a solid, yet invisible object & the reason I say that is because when they moved, they stayed the same distance apart, but looked like I was looking at the object at a different angle... sometimes 1 light would disappear as if on the "back side" that I couldn't see & sometimes 2 lights would disappear, but always one light was visible. The lights were alternating "twinkles", never twinkling at the same time, in a circular pattern. This occurred for at least 5 minutes, along w/ the noise, in the exact same spot as when we first saw it (same distance away from us & same height from the ground), then finally it appeared to move away into the distance as the noise faded out & the noise & object disappeared altogether at the same rate & time. I looked down the road at our neighbor's homes to see if anyone else was outside looking also, but didn't see anyone, so I don't think they saw it- they probably just thought the noise was the train or a helicopter also & didn't bother to investigate.

A slow moving white light that came to a halt and then formed a circle of five small white lights which rotated in a clockwise direction

I saw a slow moving white light traveling silently from north to south. At first I thought it was an aircraft, but then the light came to a complete halt, and then it formed a circle of five small white lights which proceeded to rotate in a clockwise direction. After a couple of minutes, the lights recombined into one unit and continued to travel in a southerly direction.

It seemed to hover ,change color and take off

I was outside for a walk and I saw some kind of craft that looked like two bowls or plates put together. It just seemed to hover over some trees in the distance. Then it started to change colors and it started to flash a little. I just stood there and watched the craft. And then it seemed to take off suddenly really fast.

Other Strange things in Grand Isle, Maine

Witnessed by: my Wife Jessica Devoe

Date: 2000-2002

There are other strange things that my Wife & I have seen since we moved up here to Grand Isle, Maine. I will put them all in this same section because the descriptions are short & I'm also unsure of the exact dates that they occurred.

One night we went down the road about 2.5 miles from our home to visit some friends of ours. When we parked our car in their yard & got out, my Wife said, "Holy Cow Steve, look up in the sky!" There was a HUGE ball of fire shooting through the sky. We thought for sure it must've been an airplane on fire about to crash. It was absolutely HUGE! It was about the size of my fist held straight out in front of me! We watched as it fell at an angle through the sky. It came downwards until it was about to disappear from view behind our friend's garage & I ran to the back of the garage to see more, but when I got there I couldn't see it anymore. My Wife just stood in the driveway & watched it & she told me that when it was about to disappear behind the garage, it burned out & disappeared. About 2 days later, we met a friend-of-a-friend & were talking about what we had seen 2 nights before & he said that he had been in Bangor (about 200 miles South of Grand Isle) & had seen the same thing. It was probably a meteor.

One day when we were driving home from shopping in Madawaska, Maine, (the next town North of Grand Isle), we saw a really big ball of green fire falling through the sky. It had a long tail to it with long trailing green flames. It looked like it was headed in the direction of our house- it appeared as though it was about that far away (about 7 miles). We watched as we were driving until it disappeared behind the trees. We thought for sure we'd come home to find fire trucks somewhere near our house, but that didn't happen & we never heard about it from anyone else until recently we saw the account written by someone else from Long Lake (Madawaska) on the internet.

This next one is something that happened one Summer in the field behind our house. This field is quite large & it runs between the railroad tracks behind our house & the St. John River. All I can really say about it is that we noticed a crop-circle-looking-thing in that field directly behind our house. The hay was bent over & pressed down to the ground & it was shaped like a circle from what we could tell from our view. It wasn't a fabulous design like some of the crop circles we all see on TV., but it was definitely odd-looking. We noted that it looked as though a UFO had landed there. Not long after that, a friend of our's was visiting our home & said that his Uncle used to live in this house & that he was always "ranting" about how UFOs & aliens would do things in that field behind this house. We hadn't told him about our "crop-circle", so I'd assumed he was telling the truth, but it's hard to say. He had mentioned it briefly & then changed the subject saying that it "creeped him out" to talk about these sorts of things.

Three Towns, Three Families, Same Experience

Witnessed by: my Wife Jessica Devoe, our Friends Leo Michaud, Dave Levesque & Katie Wallace

Date: 2007

One night, my Wife & I were in the living room, doing our own things, when suddenly, we heard a really loud, bass-y, pulsating noise outside that sounded like a helicopter the size of Arkansas! It was so loud that the windows were vibrating. We ran outside & it was so dark that we couldn't see anything, but the sound was coming from the direction of the St. John River that runs between the back of our house & Canada. There were no lights flashing, no airplanes in sight, no traffic on the road- nothing that could explain the loud noise. It slowly faded as if it were travelling North along the river towards the town of Madawaska (ME).

We came back inside & immediately the phone rang. It was our Friend, Dave, who at this time lived just 3 miles up the same road in St. David (ME). He said, "Steve, do you hear a loud noise like a helicopter? It's so loud that the windows are shaking & it sounds like it just came from the direction of your house, up the river!" Now, that's some darned specific information for someone to lay on you when you haven't had time to tell anyone about what you just experienced yet! Of course, I told him what we had just experienced & he said that his girlfriend, Katie, was all freaked out about it too!

So, we hung up the phone & it immediately rang again. It was our Friend, Leo, who lives 10 miles away (less through the woods) by Long Lake in Madawaska (ME). He said, "Steve, I just saw a UFO! I was outside smoking a cigarette & I saw weird lights coming from the airport in Frenchville... they  flew toward your house, hovered in that area for a few seconds, then flew north toward Madawaska (ME) as if it were following the river!"

Needless to say, that was a regular topic of conversation between all 5 of us for a long time afterwards!
